About MaryNissiMy journey to being a doula and childbirth educator in many ways feels like a natural progression. It began when I was pregnant with my first born. I found myself with so many questions. Thankfully, I had Rachel, a nurse from a program for first time mamas. Rachel took upon a role that forever changed my life. She walked with me on this journey of pregnancy and postpartum. She empowered me to ask my questions and allowed me to take lead in my birth. My amazing birth experience opened me up to something bigger than myself. I felt the support of a birth doula for the first time and never looked back!
I did my training through DONA and began supporting and empowering mamas as I had been supported and empowered: to support women through the birth experience they choose, however way they define it. I truly believe that in life it takes a village in life and the journey of birth beautifully illustrates this image. A birth takes a team for a mama to birth her child, and as a doula I get to be part of that process in mama’s lives. Recently, I found out that my great-grandmother was a traditional midwife and birthed my mother in her home! It was in my blood the whole time and I truly feel called to this work. I am the happiest when I am spending time with friends and family. My house is always open for food and fun and little kids running around. I enjoy painting canvas, I enjoy using oil paint but find myself going to acrylic more often especially after kids. I am also outdoors as much as possible! We started camping in 2020 and now we are hooked! |
